Romans 12:14
Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don’t curse.
It’s interesting that this was written by Paul. Paul was one of the most well-known persecutors of the Church in history because he persecuted it at a time when
it was very small. It’s just a guess but he probably holds the record for the greatest percentage of harm done to the Church by a single man. Listen to what Paul says
about himself:
1 Timothy 1:15
The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
We know that the Holy Spirit is in us when we are able to actually bless our persecutor. The fact is that all of us are born persecutors of Jesus Christ and
we all needed a blessing in order to make it to heaven. It is actually hypocritical of us to expect more out of other sinners. Thank God for His great love for us
that loved us while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8
But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
