Romans 6:12-14
Therefore don’t let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Neither present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace.
Now, if we recognize the fact that, in Christ, we have died and resurrected unto God, it should affect how we consider our physical lives today. It doesn’t make any sense for us to offer the services of our bodies over to our bad lusts. It only makes sense for us to offer our lives up to God.
No matter how we naturally think of the situation, Paul tells us that our bodies are an offering. You can offer it up to lust which leads to death, or, as a Christian, you can offer it up to God as one who was resurrected with Christ.
The amazing thing is that sin can’t win against us when we offer our bodies up to God. When Jesus has our bodies, we stop sinning. This is the miracle of being “born again.” We don’t have to act like we used to act. We can actually change and it doesn’t matter if we are children when we become a Christian or if we are very old. Jesus resurrected with us many years ago and age doesn’t matter. This is a supernatural change.
This explains why people who become Christians in jail can become totally different people. It isn’t that we don’t have sin in our bodies, however. If we offer our bodies up to sin, sin can still happen. We need to remember who we really are. We are those who live in Christ and because He lives we can become good people in this life by Him.
