John 14:4-6 – Where I go, you know, and you know the way.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.”
Here we read that Jesus did not teach that there were any other ways to get to God than through Him. Jesus says here in the Bible, that He is the way to God the Father.
Not only that, Jesus tells us that He is also the Truth and the Life. What does it mean for Jesus to be the Truth?
At least one thing that we know it means is that if someone were to make a claim that something He said was not quite correct, that they would be lying. If someone tries to re-interpret this simple fact that there is no other way to God but by Jesus, they are claiming that Jesus didn’t mean this, or was lying. This is extremely common today. Many people including many who claim to be Christian teachers have attempted to “tolerate” other religions with Christianity. This is absolutely wrong! It may not pervert the other religions, but it certainly perverts the clear words of the Bible. Jesus says He is the Truth, and the Way. I believe it.
Jesus also says He is the only way to truly live. He is the Life. By perverting this truth, the way is also perverted and people are left to die without Jesus. We are not doing any good and also doing a great deal of harm to not stand up on this obviously Biblical point. We must do it to save the lives of those around us as God leads them to us.
As we have been reading throughout John, we have seen that Jesus is not like any other religious leader and cannot be Biblically compared to any other person than God Himself. We also find that Christianity cannot be compared to any other religion when you follow the Bible, because it does not regard any other religion but itself. Although, at one time the Law of Moses was regarded by the Bible, it is now no longer providing a way to God except through the only one who kept the Law of Moses and then died for our punishment.
The Bible accepts no combination of Christianity and any other religion. A “Christianity” that attempts to say something different than what Jesus says is not Christianity. Without paying attention to Jesus, there is no Christianity because the “Christ” of “Christianity” must be the reason for it.
May God help us to not be fooled by those who don’t really believe in what Jesus says.
