Day 166: Says Who?

John 18:33-38 :

Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”

Jesus answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”

Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”

Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”

Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?”

Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

Some people believe that Jesus government is only in heaven and it may sound like He says that here, but we know from other parts of the Bible, that this can’t be the case. When Jesus prayed “The Lord’s Prayer” for His disciples, He said:

Mathew 6:10 :

“Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.”

Even though Jesus came into this world as a King who had laid down his Kingdom in Heaven, Jesus was still to come again to set up a Kingdom here on earth. If it were not to actually happen that Jesus Kingdom come, then the “Lord’s Prayer” would go unanswered and His word would fail to be the truth as He says here. That’s what Pilot didn’t understand, it is Jesus who knows and speaks truth and asking again only showed that He didn’t believe at all.

Not too long ago in the United States of America, the Bible was so respected that it was used as a school book. The idea that the Bible was true was a very common belief among Americans. Americans believed that if the Bible said then it must be the truth.

Now, it is more common to hear Americans question what the Bible says because of what people say. This is a similar pattern that we have witnessed in history in other countries.

Ultimately, the problems we have today in the United States stem from Christians rejecting the authority of the Bible. This happened as we slowly listened to the voices of men instead of God. When American Christians believed in the Bible and were unwilling to allow mankind to change it, they eventually enjoyed success. God and the Bible were our foundation. I think you would agree with me that it is a very unwise thing to destroy the foundation of your own house, yet that’s what America is doing today in the name of “change.” This has been done before, and America has returned to God. Let’s pray that we turn back to God and find healing before it is too late.

After Pilate, and after Nero burned Christians, Rome discovered the wonder of the Bible for a time. Rome was strong then, but still later they decided to listen to the words of men more than God’s word and even denied common people access to the Bible. Once again, they began to fall apart. A while later, a man named Luther believed that it would be important to print the Bible in common language again, so did King James in England… Then, these nations began to rise.

Jesus told us that His Spirit would guide us into all truth. As Christians we must believe this and uphold the authority of God’s words over those of mankind no matter what people say. Then we can expect that God will help our nation to be successful again.
