Genesis 8:13-19
It happened in the six hundred first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from the earth. Noah removed the covering of the ship, and looked. He saw that the surface of the ground was dried. In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.
God spoke to Noah, saying, “Go out of the ship, you, and your wife, and your sons, and your sons’ wives with you. Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh, including birds, livestock, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply on the earth.”
Noah went out, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him. Every animal, every creeping thing, and every bird, whatever moves on the earth, after their families, went out of the ship.
There must have been a great deal of fear on that ship because after all of those days on the water, no one dared to get out of it when it finally rested on dry land. God told Noah when to get out and only after that did they get out. The destruction must have been terrifying.
God told them all to get out of the ship, reproduce and “multiply on the earth.” This is basically the same command given to Adam. This time there was no tree to watch out for, only the lingering memory of destruction caused by the first sin. It’s easy to see why Noah and his family were concerned after seeing all of this destruction. They knew that they were still sinners and were still capable of sinning. We know what God’s plan was. God was later to take care of man’s sin problem forever. God’s promise to Adam and Eve could not be broken. One day a son of Eve would bruise the serpent’s head. It is important for us to remember what saved Noah. It was the fact that he was called righteous by God because he had faith in God. Noah was still a sinner, but God blessed his faith and saved him from destruction.
