Genesis 9:18-19

The sons of Noah who went out from the ship were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham is the father of Canaan. These three were the sons of Noah, and from these, the whole earth was populated.

We are all members of a single family as we read here. True Christians should have nothing to do with racism at all. We should care for each other because we are all made in God’s image and we all come from the same family.

The genetic evidence suggests that humans actually came from a single woman. This brings up a good example of how our presuppositions can lead us to different interpretation of scientific evidence. There was a time, not too long ago, that scientists assumed otherwise, but many scientists now believe that the evidence suggests that we ultimately all came from a single woman. This is consistent with the Bible.

The problem is that it also happens to be somewhat consistent with those who believe that we all came from dirt. Because we can arrive at two different stories about the past, the evidence doesn’t prove either story. The best we can do is argue about which one is more likely.

The Bible requires that we come to it believing, not doubting. God must help us to start out believing in order for the truth about the Bible to be clear to us.
