Luke 4:40-41 :
When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. Demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” Rebuking them, he didn’t allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
Notice here that Jesus healed everyone that came to Him. This is exactly what He still does today. It’s been over 2,000 years since Jesus promised to return after His resurrection. When He returns He has promised to bring God’s wrath upon the earth, but because God doesn’t want to bring wrath He has waited and waited for more people to come to Him and be healed as soon as they come.
God will not wait forever, however, and as we read in Galatians, God cannot be mocked. He will eventually bring the wrath of God on those who refuse to come.
Many people wonder why God would require that we come to Him or else be punished and they question His character because of this. It is important to remember that we are the ones who deserve punishment because we don’t live according to God’s commands. By not obeying God’s commands we hurt other people and ourselves and God cannot allow that to continue forever. He waits patiently for as many to come as will come and then He will put an end to sin.
It is interesting to note that there were many who were demon possessed. It makes me think that it may still be true today but not as commonly recognized. Jesus continued His pattern of disallowing them to speak even though they were saying that He was the Messiah.
