Day 88: Knowing Jesus

Luke 8:22-26 :

Now it happened on one of those days, that he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out. But as they sailed, he fell asleep. A wind storm came down on the lake, and they were taking on dangerous amounts of water. They came to him, and awoke him, saying, “Master, master, we are dying!” He awoke, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and it was calm. He said to them, “Where is your faith?” Being afraid they marveled, saying one to another, “Who is this, then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?” They arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee.

To really get to know Jesus we have to believe what He says. We can see how true this is in this story. The disciples were so afraid that they would die even though they had the maker of heaven and earth riding with them. This is proof that they didn’t yet believe this and we can see that they didn’t because they asked “Who is this?” as if they were surprised that Jesus could stop the storm.

If any of us fail to believe that Jesus is who He said He is, we will find ourselves in the same position as the disciples did here. The Bible tells us that Jesus is God. It also tells us that God made the entire world in six days. That means that Jesus made the world in six days, so there is nothing on earth that could possibly harm Him without His permission. Look at the stress that the disciples went though because of their lack of belief. They actually thought that they were going to die that day. Then take a look at Jesus. He was sleeping! This tells me that a couple of things. One, that He didn’t think He was going to die, and two that He was extremely tired!

When we are living our lives according to God’s plan, we really can stop stressing and start living because we know that God has our best interest in mind and when we are really serving God, we will probably get very tired because of how hard we work. It is true that sometimes we will be under stress in these dangerous times we live in, but we still know that God is in control and will not allow anything to happen to us that He will not be going through with us. Knowing that Jesus has our best interest in mind, helps us to stop stressing out of fear for our own future.
