John 16:12-15 – “I have yet many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now. However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming. He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine, and will declare it to you. All things whatever the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine, and will declare it to you.

Here we read that Jesus knew that the disciples weren’t able to take all of the things He had to say to them. He had already mentioned that they would learn more about what He was saying later. This time, Jesus tells them, about the coming of the Holy Spirit and that He would teach them.

It is the Holy Spirit today that guides us into the truth. Satan attacks the Holy Spirit by trying to convince the world that truth does not exist. When people say things like “that is true for you but not for me”, they are really saying: “there is no truth.” Although the truth can have many parts, a child knows that it does exist and can be shared.

Recently, I read one blogger who tried to claim that those who believed in the Bible would be likely to become Nazis. Not only was he was saying things that bring more persecution to Christians, he was taking a very hard line against anyone who would be willing to believe in documented “truth.” He claimed that those who thought like this didn’t think for themselves. His argument was inconsistent. He was writing “his truth” down on a blog for others to read and expecting others to believe him! It would have been more honest for him to be quiet. He was being hypocritical, intellectually dishonest, and arrogant. One who already has a belief system is less likely to be deceived by the “Hitlers” of the world, especially those who have the Holy Spirit teaching them (he also ignored the fact that the Bible was written by way of the Jews!)

The Holy Spirit does the work of both the Father and the Son. He passes the truth from them, on to us. The Bible says that all scripture is spoken by God. The Holy Spirit is able to make these writings known to us. We should read the Bible while trusting in the Holy Spirit to teach us.

It is also important to see that the Holy Spirit isn’t self-glorifying. He seeks to glorify Jesus. That’s why Jesus is so popular today.
