Luke 6:29-30 :

To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer also the other; and from him who takes away your cloak, don’t withhold your coat also. Give to everyone who asks you, and don’t ask him who takes away your goods to give them back again.

The verse we read today sounds completely crazy to the world, but I have discovered that the reason it does is because the world comes to these verses with a bad mindset. I don’t think that I’m quite mature enough as Christian to fully understand this. I believe that there may be others reading this, who, unlike me, are filled with joy when they read this verse because they have matured in their Christian walk. They can’t wait to give their coat away because God has made them understand the economy of the Kindom of Heaven.

What is it that would make a human being be willing to be struck twice on the face or to have their property stolen and not desire to get it back? What in the world would cause a person to give a loan as if it were a gift? We find out more as we continue learning Jesus’ teachings, but I believe it has to do with where we get paid and who we most dearly love.

There is a well known concept in business that you get what you measure. If you measure how many people are coming in to work late, you will find that you get whole new group of people coming into work earlier. If you measure the number of people who wear suits and ties, in time you have a well dressed staff. I believe that Jesus was introducing how the Kindom measures value. I think that way to really understand this “turn the other cheek” concept is to understand the reward system in Heaven and, Lord willing, we will discuss that next time.
