Luke 12:22-24 :

He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life, what you will eat, nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they don’t sow, they don’t reap, they have no warehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds!

The evolutionary view of history proposes that life progressed by way of the animals to get to mankind. This causes people to think that since man came from animals, that animals are our creators. In this philosophy, it makes sense to worship animals as higher than mankind. Christians, on the other hand, believe that God created man and the animals and that He created man higher than the animals. Not only this, Evolution suggests that survival is a virtue.

Evolution tells us that our focus on striving to get food and clothing brought us to where we are today. Other creatures who were less fit didn’t make it. Jesus clearly tells us this is wrong. Christians believe that mankind is corrupt because of sin. The birds are corrupt because of mankind and his sin. One thing we see here is that the animals, by nature, continue to depend on God for their lives. We are not “more evolved” than they are. In fact, we are living a very sorrowful life compared to them when we fail to trust in the provisions of God.

Believing in a system of thinking, like evolution, causes a person to loose sight of their true value. If a person was made by a Loving Creator, then that person has value without any further effort. If a person was just a result of random chance and an ever higher competition to be more fit than others, there is the pressure to fight for our lives and demonstrate our value by our ability to overpower others.

As Jesus says here, God values mankind more than the birds and He feeds the birds regularly. We don’t need to worry about our food or clothes because it isn’t about survival of the fittest, but about the fact that we were born on purpose. We don’t need to store up treasure here. We can trust that God will give us what we need. I don’t believe God is saying we don’t need to do any work to get food. Even the birds look for food, but we should be living for the one who feeds us and doing whatever He has for us to do.
