Luke 22:7-13

The day of unleavened bread came, on which the Passover must be sacrificed. He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”

They said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare?”

He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house which he enters. Tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make preparations there.”

They went, found things as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

One of the things I struggle with is depending on God for things that seem like they are in my control but actually are not. I think that the disciples did very well in this situation and I believe this may hold a good patern for how we should seek the Lord in our day-to-day lives. First, the disciples were given a command by Jesus. Then, rather than just going off and figuring out everything for themselves, they ask Him what He wants. Notice that Jesus doesn’t scold them or tell them that they did the wrong thing but, instead, tells them exactly what they should do.

What Jesus tells them is more specific that a mere human could know. What Jesus tells them is more like a part of a play or a movie that He already watched. Somehow there would be a man who would just give them what they needed. We have no idea how this could happen but it did and everything worked out. Isn’t that how it is in our lives when God comes in and changes everything? One moment we can be in despair and the next moment everything is changed by a seemingly insignificant event. What once seemed like a huge problem melts away into nothing.

May God help us to remember His great power over circumstances and that He is able to give us exactly what we need when we need it.
