Romans 6:2-4
We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
God teaches us through the Bible that we are to recognize the fact that we were “in Jesus” when He died. This means that we have already gone through the death penalty in
Christ. When we become Christians, we are supposed to recognize this fact. It was what baptism means. I am afraid that many miss this very important part of our faith.
As you can see this fact forms a very important foundation for our reason to stop sinning and to understand where the power to do good is.
Because we were placed in Jesus when He died, we were also included when He was buried and when He was raised from the dead. Since we were with Christ in His resurrection,
we now have a completely new life “in Him.” As you can see, our relationship with Christ forms the only true life a Christian has. There simply is no real life outside of Jesus Christ.
As believers, we can’t do anything alone. We only live in combination with the life of Jesus. Remember what Jesus told His disciples in John?
John 15:5
“I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
