Romans 7:2-3

For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband. So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man.

In case you were wondering about the last lesson and how it could be that this is true about death separating us from the law, Paul gives us a very practical
example. God is the reason for marriage and He tells us that marriage is good in His Law in the Bible. Many people understand the Biblical Law of marriage but don’t
even know it is from the Bible.

That is why it doesn’t make sense to change the definition of marriage because it comes from God and cannot be changed. Governments may change it but like all sin, they will end up corrupting the world more by going away from the Law.

The law of Marriage states that a couple is married until one of the two dies. After that, the law of marriage has no effect. If the law survived the death of the one who died, the wife or husband would not be free to re-marry. Because the law makes it clear that the remaining spouse is free from the law we know that the law doesn’t survive the death of one who is bound to it.

So death of one who is a party to the law causes the law to no longer have a hold over the situation. This is a very deep and mysterious subject and gets more interesting as we read on.
