Genesis 3:7-8
The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. They heard the voice of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.
When Adam and Even became aware of evil, it didn’t take long for shame to set in. Being bad is embarrassing and shameful and there is nothing we can really do about it. Adam and Eve did the same thing that we all try to do when faced with shame. They tried to cover it up or hide it somehow.
Having our eyes open to sin and evil is not a good thing. There are certain things that we should never know about. Some people say that the world would be better off if more people were educated. Although, it is true that that being educated about the truth is a much better thing than being ignorant, knowledge itself is not what people need. We need to know what God wants us to know and stay away from the things that He doesn’t want us to know.
Because we learned what evil was, we also got to discover what pain, death and sorrow was like. These are things that I would rather have never learned, but God had a plan to use them to produce something good that He had in mind all along.
Notice how sin also crushed our relationships. We were no longer comfortable around our Creator or each other.
