Genesis 3:20-21
The man called his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Yahweh God made coats of skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.
God clothed man and because He did, we know that we aren’t to go around naked. In this way, God agreed that mankind was shameful and feeling ashamed was appropriate to the situation. These verses also tell us how the first animal died. God killed the first animal in order to clothe man after he sinned.
It actually would have made sense for God to kill mankind right at this point. Why would a perfect God who said that a person who eats would die, not put an end to all evil right there? God is good and we know as Christians that God had a much bigger plan. Not only did God not destroy mankind, He made temporary provisions for them, such as making clothes from animal skins.
Because an animal had to die to pay for man’s shame, we can see a relationship between clothing and the
forgiveness of sin. The Bible tells us
that only by blood is a person’s sins forgiven. It also tells us that the blood of animals is not good enough even though God would recognize the death of an animal as a
temporary covering. The only “clothing” for sin that will actually work to make mankind innocent again was provided by the death of Jesus.
Galatians 3:27 :
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
