Day 32: Dedication

Acts 5:42 :

Every day, in the temple and at home, they never stopped teaching and preaching Jesus, the Christ.

Without the help of the Holy Spirit, one round of beatings would probably be enough to get me to stop preaching an illegal message, but by His power, I know that I would be able to keep going, doing what God wants me to do. It is sometimes hard for me to understand why God would want us to go through these hardships, but I think it gets clearer at the time we go through them. Sometimes, God doesn’t tell us beforehand and that is good because it teaches us to trust in Him for what we need in the future.

Notice how often the apostles did their work for the Lord. They didn’t just do it on Sunday and Wednesday nights. Many times in my life, I have been accused of talking about God too much. I’m more concerned, however, that when I get to heaven and talk to Jesus myself, that I will find that I didn’t talk about Him enough. Working for God isn’t going to be convenient. We have a powerful enemy that influences the world around us.

Notice where they were preaching. It wasn’t just in the Temple, but at home too.

Finally, notice what they were preaching. They were preaching that Jesus was The Christ or the Messiah. They didn’t just preach “Jesus the nice man” or “Jesus the person who was mistreated” or “Jesus the great teacher” even though these things were true. The important thing that they needed to communicate everyday, everywhere was that Jesus was the Messiah.
