John 18:24-32:
Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest. Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?”
He denied it, and said, “I am not.”
One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”
Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.
They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover. Pilate therefore went out to them, and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”
They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”
Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.”
Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,” that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
Jesus words always come true. Jesus told Peter that he would deny Him three times and that is exactly what Peter did that very night as we read here. Notice that Jesus wasn’t going to be stoned to death (like they had attempted to do before). Jesus had said that He will be hanged on a tree. Because of this, it had to be done by the Romans. Notice that it was the word of God that was in charge here. It wasn’t the Romans or the Jews or anyone else.
God’s words always come true. This is why I find it amazing that Christians are so prone to follow “science” over the words of God. It was the word of God that made science. He is not bound by it and doesn’t have to live within it. It is not for us to say how many days it took for God to create the universe. We have to take that fact from Him. He said it was six days about 6,000 years ago. Science doesn’t get to make a comment since science wasn’t there yet. My God isn’t science. My God is the one who told Peter what He would do before He did it. He’s the one who raises the dead, was born of a virgin, and commands angels. As true Christians, that is what we believe. Science alone doesn’t allow us believe any of those things, yet they happened.
God’s word says that eventually everyone will have to admit that Jesus is who He says He is. It will happen.
