Day 168: Someday Things Will Change

Genesis 41:37-45

The thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all of this, there is none so discreet and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and according to your word will all my people be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than you.” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck, and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, “Bow the knee!” He set him over all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.” Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-Paneah; and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

Pharaoh believed what God said through Joseph. It is interesting to me that even Pharaoh’s servants agreed that there was no one more fitting to be in charge of things than Joseph. It’s one thing for a boss to think that you are something and yet another thing for all the employees to agree.

We see here that God had plans for Joseph that could not be determined by looking at his circumstances. In one moment, Joseph went from rags to riches and from dishonor to honor. For years Joseph was placed in a dishonorable position, but God was able to save him and lift him up when the time came.

Did you know that the same thing goes for us as Christians? Now we are dishonored, but the day will come when we will be glorified because we have believed in Jesus. Here’s what Paul writes in the Bible about Christians:

Romans 8:18-19 :

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us. For the creation waits with eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.

Notice that we are going to have glory because we are children of God. The good that we will see will far outweigh the bad we experience today. We need patience because someday, things will change for us just like they did for Joseph.
