John 15:26-27 – “When the Counselor has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me. You will also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.”
Have you ever wondered how Jesus got so popular? I doubt that there is any other man as popular with so many people right now. The name of Jesus goes on despite the book burnings, persecution, and illegalization around the world.
The Holy Spirit has power that far exceeds any human and He is very much alive in our world today. He’s the one causing me to “testify” about Jesus. Just as Jesus promised here, the Spirit of truth did come and His disciples did teach us as well. That’s how the book of John was written.
John was writing part of the story of a man the Romans executed in shame. Somehow, we are reading that same record many years later. That really is miraculous. How many other 2000 year old books do you read? The more I think about it the more I “see” the silent power of the “Spirit of truth” at work.
The Holy Spirit is called “Counselor” and “the Spirit of truth” here. It is He who causes us to “know” something about God because He is the one making the truth known inside of us. I can easily see that it is possible for doubts to linger forever, but by the power of the Holy Spirit we can actually leave our doubt behind somehow. That allows us to rise above them and live a new life.
I thank God that Jesus and the Father sent the Holy Spirit to us. May we live in His power by allowing Him to do His work in us right now.
