Romans 6:1-2

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be!

Some people actually believe that since sin makes God’s forgiveness look better, that sinning should be acceptable. Our bodies, this world and Satan work against us to deceive us into complicated ideas like this. The truth is actually very simple: bad is always bad and good is always good. We can’t be good by being bad no matter how we explain it away.

Just because God’s grace is so amazing that it can overcome the worst sin doesn’t mean that we should try to make the worst sin!

Paul is about to go into a discussion about why this a completely wrong idea. When people think things like this it reveals that they don’t understand who they are and what Jesus actually did when He died on the cross. This touches on the concept of “identification,” one that both Catholics and Protestants didn’t focus much on. Fortunately, the Bible does focus on it here in chapter five.

At this point we start to get the background behind why we do what we do as Christians and how we should and should not be living. It is very clear that no one should take the idea from Paul’s words that it is Ok to sin.
